Boost audio in mplayer

Sometimes you may be watching a DVD whose volume is very quite. In mplayer, to boost audio, is just a piece of cake:

mplayer -af volume=10.1:0 media.avi

This example was taken from the manual page of mplayer. In this case this would amplify the sound by 10.1dB and hard-clip if the sound level is too high.
